3.8Question type: summary completion

A short summary of one part of the text, with gaps. It comes in two forms: fill the gaps from the text itself, or choose from a box of given words.

The method

  1. Read the whole summary first to understand what it is about. Do not start with gap one.
  2. Identify which part of the text the summary covers. It is usually one or two paragraphs, not the whole text.
  3. Predict the grammar and the meaning of each gap before searching.
  4. If there is a word box, remember the box always contains more words than gaps, and the extra ones are chosen to look attractive.
  5. With a word box, cross words off as you use them so that the choice narrows.
