Part 9
A Twelve-Week Study Plan
A Twelve-Week Study Plan
0 sections
This plan assumes about five hours a week. Adjust the weeks, not the order: the skills build on each other.
| Week | Focus | Weekly output |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Test format, scoring, and a diagnostic test | One full section of Listening and Reading under timed conditions |
| 2 to 3 | Listening: completion and multiple choice | Four listening practices, twenty new words a week |
| 4 | Listening: maps and matching | Two listening practices plus the direction vocabulary learned by heart |
| 5 to 6 | Reading: Sections 1 and 2, matching and True False Not Given | Two full reading sections a week, timed |
| 7 | Reading: Section 3, headings and summary completion | One long text a week with all question types |
| 8 to 9 | Writing Task 1: all three registers | Two letters a week, handwritten in 20 minutes |
| 10 to 11 | Writing Task 2: all five question types | Two essays a week, handwritten in 40 minutes |
| 12 | Speaking and full mock test | Three recorded Part 2 answers, then one complete mock |
Rules for the whole twelve weeks
- Every practice is timed. Untimed practice trains a skill you will not be allowed to use.
- Every wrong answer gets a written reason. The reason is the learning; the mark is only the receipt.
- Every piece of writing is done by hand if you are taking the paper test.
- Twenty new words a week, reviewed the following week. Two hundred and forty words over the course is a visible difference in your Writing band.
- Speak English aloud for ten minutes a day, even alone. Fluency is a physical habit, not a knowledge problem.
