3.11Question type: matching features and sentence endings
Matching features gives you a list of people, places, years or organisations, and a list of statements, and you connect them. Matching sentence endings gives you the first half of a sentence and a list of possible endings.
The method for matching features
- Scan the text for the names or dates in the option list and underline every one. They are easy to find because they are capitalised or numerical.
- Work through the text in order rather than through the questions in order, because the names are scattered.
- Read the whole sentence around each name before matching.
- Check whether options may be used more than once.
The method for sentence endings
- Read the sentence beginning and predict how it should finish.
- Eliminate endings that do not fit grammatically. This alone removes several options.
- Then find the relevant place in the text and confirm the meaning.
- The beginnings follow the order of the text, so use that to narrow your search.
